Over time, I've learned that true transformation isn't just about surface-level changes. It's about going deeper - beyond the external behaviors and symptoms - to explore the intricate web of thoughts, feelings, and "parts" that make you who you are. By looking at the polarized or conflicting parts inside you, we can cultivate the self-awareness and inner harmony needed to create lasting change.
I'm sure you know that feeling - one part of you craves that unhealthy snack to make you feel less stressed, while another part knows it's not good for your health and criticises you for it. Or there's a part that wants to get back into an exercise routine, versus the part that would rather just Netflix and chill!
These parts all have good intentions, even if they seem to be at odds. And rather than trying to push them away or "fix" them, my role is to help you connect with these aspects of yourself with compassion.
You see, when we try to force our "problem" parts into submission, they often come back even stronger. But when we approach them with understanding, we create the space for true integration and healing.
That's why as a part of the health coaching process, I'll usually ask you to look into your inner world using the tools of Internal Family Systems (IFS). We'll shine a light on the various parts playing out within you, honouring each one's unique perspective. From there, we can work to cultivate harmony, balance, and a unified sense of self - the essential foundation for sustainable change.
After all, if we don't address what's going on inside, the chance of successful transformation on the outside can be much more challenging. That's why this style of coaching is such a powerful tool, because it gives you and your parts the possibility of lasting change. :)
